Fashion Photography Student Lucy Bilcock reveals all about her summer internship with BMA!
After two years of university and my third fast approaching, with no plan yet for what I wanted to do once I graduated, I knew that the time had come for me to ‘sort my life out’ and actually gain some experience in the field in which I am studying in.
A month into searching for an internship I was beginning to feel a little lost and confused as to what I was going to do with myself for the next three months before going back to uni when I came across BMA’s post looking for a social and digital marketing intern. It couldn’t seem more perfect, the UK’s number 1 commercial modelling agency and it was located only 15 minutes from my house!
I was surprised to hear back within a couple of days of applying and the next thing I knew I was on the train back from Cornwall heading to my interview! Prior to my interview I remember being so scared and almost sure that I wasn’t going to get the job, so when I was asked to start the following week I was absolutely thrilled!
Thinking back to how nervous I was before my first day seems crazy now 3 months down the line, having never had an office job I didn’t know what to expect. But I was quickly made feel comfortable by Katy and Jess whose team I would be joining on the Influencer desk.
Before working on the Influencers desk at BMA I didn’t really know that much about how influencer marketing worked, I had a few favourite bloggers that I followed but I really had no idea the amount of work that went into everything they do!
At first it was a little overwhelming with a whole roster of social media stars learn and contact but with watching their videos every day and emailing them, I soon felt like I knew them and was too part of #TeamBMA.
Within my three months working at BMA I have learnt so much and have been able to do some amazing things that I really never pictured myself doing at the beginning of summer! One of my highlights being the BMA #PickMeParty at Tape London. Helping with the whole process from the organisation and set up to attending the actual event was so much fun and I felt so proud of myself Katy and Jess for pulling off such a good night! At first I must admit it was a bit nerve racking being in a room with so many stunning models and influencers I would be lying to say I didn’t feel like a bit of a troll :/ But as soon as I built up the confidence to approach the people’s faces I had seen on the screen so much and had been emailing for the past 3 weeks, I began to have the best night and realise how lovely and friendly everyone was!
I am so grateful for my summer interning at BMA, I have learnt so much about the fashion industry, digital marketing, influencer management, model test shoots and even a bit of party planning!
I’ve had so much fun and met so many amazing people; I really don’t want to leave! Thank you all so much! #TEAMBMA 4 EVAAA xxxx
