London Fashion Week (LFW) is approaching very soon with 250 designers showcasing their designs to the fashion world. It’s a fashion trade show that happens twice a year (February and September). We would like to dedicate this post in giving you the history and stats of the exciting event!

It begins on Friday 15th of February to Tuesday 19th of February. It’s one of the four major fashion events that take place around the world each year. The others are New York, Milan and Paris Fashion Week.

Here are the top 8 facts you may not know about London Fashion Week:

1. The British Fashion Council was founded in 1983 and the first ever LFW was in 1984.

That’s when BMA was founded too!! –  That’s 36 years ago… It was also the first ever British Fashion Award where Katharine Hamnett was given Designer of the Year.

2. LFW used to be classed as ‘street events’ to entertain middle to lower class people

LFW once took place in a West London car park. This changed ever since the Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher and Princess Diana attended the LFW in 1986.

3. Stella McCartney sold her entire Collection in 1995

Stella McCartney was still a student at the time. Her friends modeled for her collection and her parents sat front row. She is now 47 years old.

4. Travel in style with Mercedez Benz

The UK fashion market continues to grow. The top UK companies based on market capitalisation are Burberry, Next Plc, Marks & Spencer and ASOS. Burberry is the top luxury fashion company in the UK and has a market value of £5.8 billion!!

6. 5000 visitors every year and £100 million worth of clothing orders.

This includes buyers, bloggers, journalists, broadcast crews and photographers. The media coverage equals or even exceeds major news and also international sport events.

7. 150,000 Instagram post.
