Model Tips: Body Care And Keeping Fit

Being a model involves looking your best, that’s pretty obvious. The question is how do models manage to look great all the time? How do they maintain their body weight and overall fitness? Some BMA Model tips below!

Hydration: Possibly the most important aspect, so this one is right at the top of the list. Water actually makes up two thirds of your body (!!!) so hydration is too important. Correct hydration will give you better skin, improved mental wellbeing and better physical performance.

How much water should you drink a day?

Lots… It is widely recommended that 6 – 8 glasses a day (or 2 litres) is a correct amount. This figure may differ based on your body weight and also climate (drink more in the warmer months). The best way to check if you are drinking enough is by checking your urine – pale or even better clear urine is the aim.

Moisturise: Another real essential for correct body maintenance. We all have a favourite body moisturiser and it is important to use regularly to soothe and protect your skin. A separate hands and face moisturiser is also worth considering.

Exfoliate: There are many benefits to exfoliating your skin. Removing dead skin cells will assist in glowing skin. Exfoliation helps open pores and reduce acne, as well as allowing other cosmetics a deeper penetration.

Cleanse: Removing all traces of makeup and cleansing well should be a part of every woman’s bedtime routine… That’s all.

Exercise: You need to exercise daily… simple as that! You can mix up your exercise routines, and you should – it will keep you more engaged with your fitness routine. We have a really great exercise at the end of this blog, which you will love us and hate us for!

How much exercise should I do?

As mentioned, daily, but you can mix in some vigorous exercises on one day with some calmer activities the next. This is recommended as it allows your muscles to relax and / or develop better. The NHS website states you should aim for 150 minutes of moderate intensity activity a week or 75 minutes of vigorous intensity activity a week.

Swimming is an excellent sport as it tones without adding too much muscle, compared with gym work. It is also pretty much injury free and puts less pressure on your body and joints compared with jogging.

HIIT (High intensity interval training) could be an option if you are limited on time.

Now the ‘fun’ bit…

We promised an exercise for you and this is one of our favourites… don’t hate us. All you will need is access to the Eminem & Rihanna track “Love The Way You Lie” – here’s the YouTube link – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uelHwf8o7_U

When Eminem raps you need to do continuous sit ups. When Rihanna sings, you hold in a half sit up, as shown in picture below. Hold position until Eminem starts again and continue with those sit ups.

Try it! Get to the end of the song and you are a legend! Good luck…

(Eminem being Eminem, there are a few sweary words in there)
